Kongsvinger Festningen Castle Hotel, located at Kingsvinger Fortress, enjoys a historic setting with an amazing hilltop vantage point overlooking the town of Kongsvinger and the River Glomma.
There is so much to experience form here, such as discovering the region’s art, culture and history on bespoke walking tours, and visiting excellent museums such as the Women’s Museum and The Plus – the world’s most environmentally friendly furniture factory, which opened in 2022 in Magnor on the border with Sweden, with a large experience centre for visitors, and an extensive recreation area in the surrounding Fir forest.
We can also arrange golf at the Peter Nordwall designed Kongsvinger Golf Club, sleigh rides and skiing in the winter, visits to nearby fjords, boating, fishing and horse riding.
The hotel promises superb hospitality and a warm atmosphere. The hotel has 28 standard and deluxe rooms and suites, which are very spacious and comfortable. The restaurant is high-end, serving delicious meals and a selection of vintage wines.
Guests can learn about the history of Kongsvinger Fortress, a 17th Century monument and one of Norway’s most important defensive sites, which has been recently restored to be used as a venue celebrating Norway’s heritage with various cultural activities. The old stone walls, cannons, signalling bell and museum are fascinating to explore.

Every time I explore a new destination, whether it’s on an adventure holiday in Peru or a luxury beach escape in the Indian Ocean, I return home full of excitement to share the amazing sights I have seen. Through my own experiences I have developed a love of helping others experience the great wonders of the world; truly getting under the skin of the extraordinary destinations that are at your fingertips. Getting the details right, from which hotel is perfectly located for exploring away from the crowds, to which local guide is most knowledgeable on history or culture or art, is of paramount importance to me. I am constantly seeking out new and exciting experiences and exploring off the beaten track to ensure my clients are receiving the best and most honest first-hand advice.
