Norway’s Sunnmore Alps can be explored from the Storfjord Hotel, a small boutique hotel in Glomset with gorgeous rooms, a fabulous restaurant and a luxurious spa.
The hotel’s hillside position enjoys panoramic views over Storfjord, and the setting lends itself to a tranquil, relaxing stay.
The hotel itself is in keeping with traditional Norwegian style, with hand-crafted log walls, and interiors decorated with carefully selected art, antiques and comfortable furniture. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, epitomising scandi-chic, designed with natural materials including lots of timber, and some with balconies and terraces to take in the stunning views of fjords, mountains and the evergreen woods. The Storfjord Suite is spectacular, with an open fireplace, warm wooden floors, a soothing natural colour palette, King bed, bathtub and shower, private balcony and sitting/dining area. The Corner Suite is also incredible, with a ‘pillow-view’ of the mountains.
Guests at the Storfjord Hotel enjoy complimentary entrance to the Wellness area, immersed in the forest, where you can choose from a wonderful selection of treatments and use the sauna and outdoor jacuzzi with woodland views. Guests can borrow yoga mats, walking poles and fishing rods during a stay, and are able to hire bikes, snowshoes, kayaks for exploring Glomset Bay and small fishing boats.
There are plenty of private activities that can be arranged for exploring the wonderful surroundings and discovering the region’s history with knowledgeable local guides, including hiking, biking, ski touring, fishing (you can take your catch back to the hotel to be cooked for a special dinner), Fjord cruises in hjørundfjord and the UNESCO World heritage area of Geirangergord, visiting spectacular waterfalls and fjord farms. The city of Alesund, half an hour away, is well worth visiting, with lovely shops, Nouveau architecture (the city was rebuilt after a fire in 1904) and fantastic fish restaurants. For those interested in discovering local art, we recommend visiting KHÅK Kunstahall, Kunstmuseet KUBE, Rod Bianco Ålesund, Devoldfabrikken, Studio Hugo Opdal Flø and Alnes Opplevelsessenter. This region is also heaven for a scenic road trip, taking in rural splendour: glaciers, mountain, waterfalls, picturesque villages. We have E-porches available for hire!
A stay at the Storfjord Hotel’s is as much about fine dining as it is adventure. Gourmet cuisine is prepared using local produce to give guests a ‘taste of Storfjord’, and meals are enjoyed in the dining room with amazing views towards the mountains and fjord. The hotel boasts a fine collection of cheese from local producers, as well as Storfjordbrygg, the hotel’s own locally brewed Ale, which is only available at the hotel.
Nearby, a lovely couple who live in the fjord village of Glomset offer a special culinary experience for guests of the Storfjord Hotel. They hunt, grow, bake and fish all of the produce that they then serve at their farm. Guests can enjoy private tastings, dinners, cooking classes and learn about local heritage and traditions.
