Hotel Esencia is a timeless classic on the Riviera Maya, located directly between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, within reach of regional wonders that include Mayan ruins, crystal clear cenotes hidden deep in the jungle, and breathtaking beaches.
Hotel Esencia is one of my favourite luxury beach resorts in Mexico, set in the former private home of an Italian duchess, within a beautiful private 50-acre estate on Xpu Ha Bay. The hotel is perfectly secluded, enjoying endless ocean views and promising the finest standards of hospitality.
In recent years, Hotel Esencia has been reimagined to reflect all of the comforts of the modern era, satisfying even the most discerning traveller, whilst its classic features and style have been maintained. Spending time at Hotel Esencia, immersed in tranquil natural surroundings, allows you to truly relax. Guests will enjoy relaxing on the private beach, swimming in heated pools, sunrise yoga, organic spa treatments, tennis and golf, complimentary watersports, and a 24-hour concierge to arrange local sight-seeing and reservations.
The hotel’s location is perfect for ocean adventures, whether that’s swimming with sea turtles, scuba diving to explore the second largest coral reef in the world, deep sea fishing for barracudas and groupers, or paddle-boarding and kite-boarding.
For those looking to enjoy a luxury wellness experience, the Esencia Health Club couldn’t be more perfect. The Esencia Spa and fitness room are located within a peaceful thatched palapa overlooking the estate’s beautiful cenote, where guests can enjoy a variety of bespoke treatments using organic local ingredients and traditional Mayan techniques.
There is a wide range of room categories to choose from - we can help you choose the perfect option. Each room in the main house is individually decorated, with a large terrace or balcony, and various suites are dotted throughout the grounds. Jungle Suites, set in tropical gardens close to the beach, feature a plunge pool, dining terrace, double rain-showers, double sinks, deep bathtubs and walk-in closets, offering all of Hotel Esencia’s signature amenities. For families, I’d recommend connecting a Jungle Suite with a Master Beach Suite, which boast unobstructed sea views and gorgeous private terraces.
Brand new this November are Esencia’s stunning Rooftop Wellness Suites, each with a private fitness studio, steam shower/sauna, and a spacious roof-terrace with a plunge pool and solarium, with a tree-top view. These suites can be connected with Jungle Suites to sleep up to 8 guests. There are also spacious Penthouse Suites with rooftop terraces and heated plunge pools, as well as the new Presidential Bungalow, a private 30,000sqft property finished in a traditional Caribbean style, with its own 120ft private beachfront.
For families, the two-bedroom Pool Villas are a lovely option, nestled into the garden foliage, with a furnished courtyard and private swimming pool. Or the 3-bedroom Yum-Ha villa on the neighbouring estate, a colonial-style property with private terraces, gardens, a Mexican-style kitchen, spacious living and dining rooms, with full access to Hotel Esencia facilities, its own private butler, and a 3-minute walk to the beach, is a fabulous option.
Guests will enjoy fine-dining, with cuisine influenced from various regions within Mexico, as well as Mediterranean cuisine. The chefs at Hotel Esencia source locally grown ingredients, whilst bringing in delicacies from different regions in Mexico, such as fruits from the Yucatan Peninsula. At Beefbar Esencia, guests enjoy the finest quality meat cuts from the Australian Black Onyx to Wx Wagyu beef and Japanese Kobe beef, enjoying the atmosphere of the open-kitchen. Mistura restaurant offers authentic Mexican cuisine, specialising in seafood dishes, with a stunning view from a beachfront ‘palapa’. The concept is ‘sea-to-table’ and guests can see the dishes being prepared over an open-fire grill.
Beach Bar has a wonderful laid-back atmosphere and is the perfect spot to indulge in Hotel Esencia’s signature cocktails whilst enjoying the finest ocean views.
Every time I explore a new destination, whether it’s on an adventure holiday in Peru or a luxury beach escape in the Indian Ocean, I return home full of excitement to share the amazing sights I have seen. Through my own experiences I have developed a love of helping others experience the great wonders of the world; truly getting under the skin of the extraordinary destinations that are at your fingertips. Getting the details right, from which hotel is perfectly located for exploring away from the crowds, to which local guide is most knowledgeable on history or culture or art, is of paramount importance to me. I am constantly seeking out new and exciting experiences and exploring off the beaten track to ensure my clients are receiving the best and most honest first-hand advice.
