The Lindis, one of the most spectacular contemporary luxury lodges in New Zealand, is set in an extraordinarily beautiful and remote setting, Ben Avon Station; within a sheltered valley that is carved by the Ahuriri river, surrounded by rugged mountain peaks.
The Lindis is perfectly positioned for exploring a pristine natural environment. Guests are encouraged to embrace as many of the diverse range of privately-guided activities that this natural paradise provides: world-class angling, hiking across mountain passes, horse riding along the river’s edge (The Lindis has its own stables and a wonderful team of horses), and relaxing in tranquil surroundings, a world away from the stresses of urban life.
There are plenty of helicopter adventures to choose from: heli-skiing, heli-fishing, flying over Dusky Sound, and reaching remote parts of the fiordland for breathtaking hikes.
A particularly popular e-bike adventure is the privately guided downhill route alongside Lake Ohau, journeying from the Alps to the Ocean with amazing vantage points over the Mackenzie Basin, stopping en-route for a gourmet picnic lunch.
Privately-guided 4WD adventures are offered to explore the Alpine Meadows, wetlands, river valleys and beech forests of the Ahuriri Valley, often including delicious picnics at stunning view points.
The lodge exterior has been designed to mirror the contours of the mountains that form its backdrop, so that it blends into the landscape of the Ahuriri Valley, sitting in harmony with its surroundings. Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure you feel entirely connected to this special landscape throughout your stay.
The Great Hall is a central space for dining, with a bar and lounge areas, games room and billiards room. The interiors are designed with the natural colour tones of the surrounding landscapes, with soft lighting, contemporary wooden furniture, and every space is warm and cosy to keep guests feeling protected from the elements, with fireplaces always roaring.
Three Lodge Suites feature super king beds, luxury linens, ensuite bathrooms, private seating areas and incredible views.
For more space, there are three Master suites, with sweeping views, indoor and outdoor lounge spaces and fireplaces.
For a very unique wilderness experience, stay in one of the three Pods; private structures set a stone’s throw from the main lodge, with glass walls on three sides to maximise on the views, and designed to keep you warm and protected, whilst feeling a part of the landscape. Each pod is fitted with a King bed and ensuite bathroom, as well as an outdoor bathtub and sitting area.
Star-gazing under a clear night’s sky from a bubbling hot-tub with a glass of Champagne is completely magical, especially as there’s barely any light pollution, given The Lindis remote setting.
Along with breathtaking scenery, stunning suites, thrilling activities, warm hospitality and impressive private guides with unmatched local knowledge, guests at The Lindis enjoy delicious seasonal cuisine and fine New Zealand wines. The menu will always include plenty of locally sourced ingredients, such as porcini mushrooms foraged in the valley, and wild fiordland venison.
Every time I explore a new destination, whether it’s on an adventure holiday in Peru or a luxury beach escape in the Indian Ocean, I return home full of excitement to share the amazing sights I have seen. Through my own experiences I have developed a love of helping others experience the great wonders of the world; truly getting under the skin of the extraordinary destinations that are at your fingertips. Getting the details right, from which hotel is perfectly located for exploring away from the crowds, to which local guide is most knowledgeable on history or culture or art, is of paramount importance to me. I am constantly seeking out new and exciting experiences and exploring off the beaten track to ensure my clients are receiving the best and most honest first-hand advice.
