At New Zealand’s exclusive Huka Lodge, on the banks of the fast-flowing Waikato River within 17 acres of stunning park-like grounds, stay in cosy, elegant private cottages, enjoying incredible views of turquoise waters, lush forests and snow-capped mountains beyond.
Huka Lodge is a wonderful base for enjoying outdoor adventures across the region year-round. In winter, you can escape to the Tongariro National Park for skiing and snowshoeing.
Taupo is even more gorgeous to explore in summer, where you’re spoilt for choice with remote hiking and biking trails around the mountains and lakes. We can arrange high-adrenaline activities such as white-water rafting, bungy jumping and paragliding, to gentle river kayaking, spectacular helicopter flights, and off-roading adventures by quad bike.
There are plenty of secluded spots for a tranquil morning trout fishing on Lake Taupo, or fly-fishing in the river, and there’s a golf course just 5 minutes from the lodge.
The lodge offers warm, personal hospitality and discerning luxury. Guests stay in Junior Lodge Suites or private cottages, which offer the ultimate private house party experience in a breathtaking rural setting. The interiors are luxurious, generous in size and beautifully furnished - expect the highest quality linens, feather pillows, deep baths, heated floors, and the softest blankets to wrap up in for reading or a glass of wine by the fire. I love the french doors that open out onto the terrace offering inspiring river views.
Within the lodge grounds there is a swimming pool, tennis court and croquet lawn to enjoy, and the cuisine is of the highest quality, with pre-dinner drinks, canapes and 5-course gourmet dinners included.
The Junior Lodge Suites are nestled into the beautiful landscape and immersed in nature. The cottages, with 2 or 4 spacious suites, open out onto private decks that lead to lush lawns, with comfortable seating and al fresco dining to make the most of tranquil, soul-stirring surroundings.
The Owner’s Cottage enjoys a secluded, elevated position overlooking the Waikato River, with a private deck, infinity swimming pool and heated spa pool. The cottage features beautifully appointed living and dining areas, with high ceilings, plenty of natural light, oak wood floors, an enchanting collection of local art work, super king size beds and lovely fireplaces in the bedrooms.
Guests can sit out in the evenings around an incredible outdoor fireplace in the courtyard garden - perfect for calm and cosy nights.
Guests can choose to dine in their cottage or in the main lodge, with full access to all lodge facilities and services.
Alan Pye Cottage is another elegant living space offering luxury accommodation in an exclusive setting.

Every time I explore a new destination, whether it’s on an adventure holiday in Peru or a luxury beach escape in the Indian Ocean, I return home full of excitement to share the amazing sights I have seen. Through my own experiences I have developed a love of helping others experience the great wonders of the world; truly getting under the skin of the extraordinary destinations that are at your fingertips. Getting the details right, from which hotel is perfectly located for exploring away from the crowds, to which local guide is most knowledgeable on history or culture or art, is of paramount importance to me. I am constantly seeking out new and exciting experiences and exploring off the beaten track to ensure my clients are receiving the best and most honest first-hand advice.
