Brookdale Estate, just an hour’s drive from Cape Town airport, is a beautiful 5-bedroom home immersed in vineyards on a private working wine estate that spans 80 hectares.
Brookdale Estate’s location at the foot of the dramatic Drakenstein Mountain range is jaw-dropping, and it’s only a short drive from the famous wine towns of Stellenbosch and Franschoek to enjoy some of the finest wine-tasting experiences in the Cape Winelands.
Brookdale house, sleeping ten guests, can be taken over on exclusive-use only, and is enjoyed on an all-inclusive basis, which includes fine dining and delicious house wines, as well as a superb service from a wonderful team of staff that includes a private chef, butler, housekeeper and concierge.
Guests have the entire estate to enjoy as their own, and can spend days relaxing by the pool, wandering through the vineyards, taking picnics by the river or wine tasting under a parasol with Brookdale sommelier, Kiara Scott. The house is surrounded by beautiful herb and citrus gardens and the pool is a shimmering haven of tranquillity, lined with sun loungers and with both indoor and outdoor dining options in the contemporary pool house or under a pergola overlooking a sea of vines.
The house has a wonderful backstory, as it was recently renovated based on old drawings found of an original farmhouse on the property. The style is traditional Cape Dutch with white exterior and a thatch roof, but with ultra-modern, spacious interiors with plenty of areas to relax in, including formal and informal sitting rooms, a library and a stunning dining room.
The five suites are all vast, light and airy, and beautifully appointed with King Beds, local modern art, and ensuite bathrooms, enjoying stunning views across the estate and mountains and forests in the distance. Whilst 27 hectares of the estate is under vine, the remainder of the land is being regenerated to its natural habitat, and the farm team have spent the last few years clearing the valleys of alien vegetation, such as Australian wottle, and replanting over 3600 indigenous trees.
Guests are encouraged to totally relax and feel as if they’re in their own home, reading by the pool, enjoying long lunches paired with delicious local wines, bike riding, fishing, hiking, and visiting nearby wineries. There is a neighbouring cheetah sanctuary that does fascinating work in rehabilitating endangered species, where we can arrange visits and volunteer days. During wine harvest guests are very much welcome to join in should they be interested and can get an authentic behind-the-scenes experience of wine-making.
Brookdale Estate is a wonderful option for those looking for guaranteed privacy in a stunning private home, enhanced by the luxury service you’d expect of a five-star resort, to be shared exclusively with family or friends. A few nights in the winelands works perfectly in combination with some time in Cape Town and a wildlife safari. For those keen to arrive in style, there is a beautiful oval lawn by the house that has been specifically designed to act as a helipad.
Every time I explore a new destination, whether it’s on an adventure holiday in Peru or a luxury beach escape in the Indian Ocean, I return home full of excitement to share the amazing sights I have seen. Through my own experiences I have developed a love of helping others experience the great wonders of the world; truly getting under the skin of the extraordinary destinations that are at your fingertips. Getting the details right, from which hotel is perfectly located for exploring away from the crowds, to which local guide is most knowledgeable on history or culture or art, is of paramount importance to me. I am constantly seeking out new and exciting experiences and exploring off the beaten track to ensure my clients are receiving the best and most honest first-hand advice.
