I absolutely loved my stay at Baur au Lac. This is a truly beautiful property in the centre of Zurich, set in its own park with spectacular views overlooking Lake Zurich and the Alps. The location is perfect, only a few minutes’ walk from the financial district (perfect for anyone travelling on business and looking to enjoy a beautiful weekend escape), as well as the Bahnhofstrasse for excellent shopping and high-end restaurants. It’s also a great place to stop en route to the Alps or on your journey home from a skiing holiday.
Baur au Lac is a warm and cosy, welcoming hotel, still family-owned, with the most heavenly luxury rooms. Whilst it’s a historic Zurich landmark, celebrating its heritage and traditions, Baur au Lac has always kept with times and is perfectly in tune with the desires and needs of the modern traveller, providing the highest standard of luxury living enhanced by ultra-modern features.
New suites, designed by Frederic d’Haufayt, are sophisticated and spacious, with individually chosen furniture and sumptuous soft furnishings to give each space its own style and elegant finish. Views either take in the city, Schanzengraben Canal, lake, or private park.
The larger Deluxe Suites with balconies are like luxury private apartments, their interior design epitomising timeless elegance. Spring for a Corner Suite, decorated with French period furniture, to enjoy the best views. Service, as expected from a 5 star hotel, is faultless, as is the concierge service. This is the best place to stay in Zurich.
Baur’s Brasserie and Bar serves delicious seasonal food in contemporary space with a cool atmosphere – great for a cocktail.
For fine-dining, Pavillion is the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant in the expert hands of head chef, Laurent Eperon. Guests dine in a beautiful flower-filled conservatory, which lets in lots of natural light during the day, and is then lit by candles in the evenings.
Le Hall is another stunning space, always bustling, where guests are served delicious homemade treats at afternoon tea.
Baur au Lac’s peaceful garden is heaven in summer – laze on a lounger sipping fresh cocktails and enjoy lunch al fresco on the terrace.
Whilst in Zurich there are plenty of historic squares, churches, and art galleries to explore. We arrange privately guided experiences – get in touch to find out more. For a special occasion, head to the Zurich Opera House, or Zurich Tonhalle music hall, another stunning building - to take in a concert here is an incredible cultural experience and highly recommended during a stay in the city.
Every time I explore a new destination, whether it’s on an adventure holiday in Peru or a luxury beach escape in the Indian Ocean, I return home full of excitement to share the amazing sights I have seen. Through my own experiences I have developed a love of helping others experience the great wonders of the world; truly getting under the skin of the extraordinary destinations that are at your fingertips. Getting the details right, from which hotel is perfectly located for exploring away from the crowds, to which local guide is most knowledgeable on history or culture or art, is of paramount importance to me. I am constantly seeking out new and exciting experiences and exploring off the beaten track to ensure my clients are receiving the best and most honest first-hand advice.
