The Ritz, Paris

First opened by Cesar Ritz in 1898, The Ritz, Paris underwent a 4-year refurbishment, completed in 2016. This was an essential project to transport The Ritz into the modern age, and it proved a great success with refreshed facilities surpassing the expectations of a modern luxury hotel, whilst not detracting from the glamour, history and traditional luxury that The Ritz has so long be known for. The Ritz remains one of the most fabulous and sophisticated hotel experiences to be enjoyed in Paris, upholding its worldwide reputation for top quality service and comfort with a high staff-to-guest ratio. From my personal experiences of staying at The Ritz, I would recommend it for a very special occasion city break, particularly for food lovers or those that go weak at the knees for old-school glamour and luxury. It is without doubt one of my favourite places to stay in Paris, only 500 yards from the beautiful Tuileries gardens, and completely unforgettable.

At the Ritz you’ll be torn between making the most of the city or enjoying your dazzling suite. The Prestige Suites are the most sought after and an extravagance worthy of a special birthday or anniversary treat. The Ritz has, since its opening, been popular amongst royalty, writers and artists, so each Prestige Suite is named after a former hotel regular, such as Marcel Proust and Coco Chanel, who lived here for 34 years. There are a number of rooms, suites and apartments with separate rooms and salons to choose from - we can assist with choosing the best home from home for you and your family.

Interiors vary, with many rooms finished in Belle Epoque décor and a mix of French traditional or neoclassical design. The interiors and period furniture are gorgeous and for me this really sets The Ritz apart. Take in the beautifully carved marble fireplaces, exquisite carpets, crystal chandeliers, hand-painted ornaments, antique writing desks, velvet sofas and historical paintings – every item is grand and elegant, as can only be expected of The Ritz. Guests enjoy modern luxury amenities, the highest quality mattresses, Italian cotton sheets, and a number of rooms have walk-in dressing rooms or lovely garden views. Those who visited The Ritz before the refurbishment will be pleased to know that within the spacious Italian marble bathrooms, signature gilded swan faucets remain in place!

Visit L’Espadon for delicious food and a stunning menu by Chef Nicolas Sale. Gourmet breakfasts are an indulgent affair, whilst 3-course lunches at Michelin-starred Les Jardins de l’Espadon are culinary adventures, served in the beautiful garden under the atrium. For a spectacular dinner, 2-Michelin-starred ‘La Table de l’Espadon’ offers a sensational fine-dining experience and a wonderful evening atmosphere. Follow this with a nightcap at the Hemingway Bar (Ernest Hemingway stayed here a great deal and the name of L’Espadon is a nod to his ‘Old Man and The Sea’ – he was a close friend of Cesar Ritz).

Bar Vendome is one of the city’s most popular restaurants, its retractable glass canopy transforming it from a winter garden to a sunlit patio whatever the weather. Its traditional brasserie design gives it a truly Parisian feel, enhanced by an ultra-cool clientele and creative menu ranging from coffees to steaks to oysters - it’ll satisfy the most discerning of gourmet travellers. The restaurant is filled with flowers, tables dressed in crisp white table cloths and comfy velvet armchairs. Bar Vendome’s ambience is enchanting year-round, but the jazz evenings are particularly atmospheric and the space has hosted some of the greatest jazz musicians from all over the world.

Le Grand Jardin is a little oasis in the city, a romantic garden of magnolia trees, boxed hedges, private alcoves and a trickling fountain at the centre. The garden can be privatised for exclusive events and is a lovely area for a drinks party.

Cesar Ritz brought the ritual of 5pm tea from London and the hotel has since been a place for people to see and be seen over a delicate, indulgent traditional tea. At the Salon Proust, feast your eyes on glass treasure chests lined with eclairs, macaroon towers, tier-upon-tier of tarts and glass domes housing Florentines or madeleines filled with runny honey. This colourful, artistic display of Parisian treats is the pride and joy of chocolatier and pastry chef, Francois Perret, who is a true asset to The Ritz and one of the most popular chefs in the city!

The Ritz, Paris has a number of beautiful areas, ranging in size and style, that lend themselves perfectly to a party, along with an address that is fairly easily accessible from anywhere in the world. I particularly love the private dining room within l’Espadon that features a beautiful round table sitting 12 – perfect for an intimate evening celebration, or the stunning salons that are ideal for wedding receptions.
