Merzouga Luxury Desert Camp, Morocco

Experience the breathtaking desert of North Africa at Merzouga Luxury Desert Camp. Situated in Erg Chebbi dunes in Morocco, the camp is a beautiful hideaway – quiet and private, with ten spacious tents offering a luxurious and relaxing stay, enhanced by magnificent views of towering dunes. Styled on the traditional homes of nomadic desert people, the ‘KHaimas’ tents, made of camel skin, are simple and tastefully decorated with colourful Moroccan interiors and comfortable King-sized beds and en-suite bathrooms. For even more privacy, we can set up a smaller camp of only 5 tents which can be taken on an exclusive basis.

Solitude is one of the finest offerings of the desert. As you travel to the camp, journeying further and further from civilization, passing mountain sides, lush valleys and traditional Berber villages, the beauty and calm of the desert begins to reveal itself. The journey from Marrakech is long, up to 9 hours in 4x4 depending on stops, but it is an extraordinary scenic road trip and an experience in itself. We recommend spending a night en route to break up the journey. Alternatively, we can arrange light aircraft and private jet arrivals and departures to access the luxury desert camp much faster.

Enjoy an exciting array of off-track exploration into the unique wilderness surrounding the camp. Walk or camel ride to the top of the dunes to watch the sunrise or sunset, enjoying spectacular, ever-changing hues as light twinkles on undulating dunes. Climb to the highest dune with a Berber guide, before enjoying tea with a Berber community. Quad bike or dune buggy on a desert safari along a natural trail across the dunes, reaching a lush green oasis for a gourmet picnic lunch, laid out on colourful blankets and cushions (ideal for an afternoon siesta). Visit the gnaoua village or see the hidden fossils in Erfoud, home to 500 varieties of fossils between 410-500 million years old. Along with active adventures, a stay at Merzouga can provide a relaxing and peaceful escape. Meditation and yoga activities are arranged to fit guests’ personal aims and prior experience, including sunset and sunrise meditation, meditative walking, Qi Gong, Tibetan meditation and mindfulness, and learning Tibetan sacred chants with expert teachers.

In the evenings, indulge in delicious, authentic Moroccan feasts, discovering typical desert cuisine combined with the best flavours of Morocco. Atmospheric dinners are set up on the top of the dunes with white table cloths, cushions and hanging lanterns – perfect for stargazing and learning about Tibetan astrology. Music is often played around the camp fire after dinner. All the staff play an instrument or sing and love to keep their guests entertained.

A trip to the desert works perfectly between a few days in Marrakech and a few days in Fez. Contact our team to plan the ultimate Moroccan adventure.
