Tucked into the Ecuadorian Cloud Forest, Mashpi Reserve is home to a dizzying array of species and is a true haven for birding.
A stunning eco-retreat, Mashpi Lodge, has been cleverly designed with floor-to-ceiling windows, immersing you in the forest and allowing you to feel completely connected to the flora and fauna encircling you. Contemporary in design, the lodge is an architectural wonder, miles from civilisation. Gazing out from the comfort of spacious, luxurious rooms, watching monkeys swooping through the trees, is pure magic.
Whilst there’s an incredible sense of tranquility about Mashpi, so removed from the bustle of city life and located in the heart of nature, the setting also provides endless adventures. Naturalist guides take guests on exciting nature trails, sharing the secrets of the forest and pointing out endemic birds and wildlife. You can explore the hummingbird garden, wander the luminous trail, and swim in the Magnolia waterfall – to name but a few of the excursions on offer.
For the adventurous, ride the Sky Bike through the treetops to enjoy and incredible vantage point over the canopy, gaining a rare insight into monkey-life!
Back at the lodge, sit out on the raised open-air terrace, listening to the tuneful birdsong, and be sure to keep binoculars close to hand to spot the more elusive creatures hiding in the trees.
For its remote location, Mashpi’s offering is wonderfully sophisticated – there’s a spa with an external massage treatment room, open air hot tub and yoga deck; and the restaurant offers a gourmet experience, introducing guests to Ecuadorian flavours and cooking traditions, and incorporating a number of ingredients native to the forest.
Mashpi provides an immersive jungle experiences whilst acting as a luxurious cocoon for guests and we couldn’t recommend it more highly.
Every time I explore a new destination, whether it’s on an adventure holiday in Peru or a luxury beach escape in the Indian Ocean, I return home full of excitement to share the amazing sights I have seen. Through my own experiences I have developed a love of helping others experience the great wonders of the world; truly getting under the skin of the extraordinary destinations that are at your fingertips. Getting the details right, from which hotel is perfectly located for exploring away from the crowds, to which local guide is most knowledgeable on history or culture or art, is of paramount importance to me. I am constantly seeking out new and exciting experiences and exploring off the beaten track to ensure my clients are receiving the best and most honest first-hand advice.
