Saint Hubertus Resort Luxury Hotel and Spa is one of our favourite hotels in Cervinia, Italy – a fantastic skiing destination on the border with Switzerland.
Flying from London to Turin with British Airways is quick and easy. Turin is a smallish airport and so super quick to get out of. There’s a good lounge for the return journey and plenty of shopping. From there, a 1.5hr drive takes you up through the quaint Aosta Valley to Cervinia, via Valtournenche, which is linked to the Cervinia/Zermatt ski area, but lower. There’s a great lunch spot on the piste - Foyer des Guides.
Saint Hubertus is the more modern version of the two leading Cervinia hotels, well-deserving of its latest accolade: Italy's Best Ski Boutique 2017. We also highly recommend the cosy, family-run Hermitage hotel, located very nearby.
Each room (Prestige, Superior, Deluxe) is a self-contained apartment, providing complete privacy in which to relax with a modern kitchenette, stone fireplaces (laid ready!), sitting and dining areas (great for families as you could self-cater for the children and head down to the restaurant for yourselves), marble bathrooms and Hermes amenities. Most rooms have their own balcony with different views through the trees to the mountains. Cervinia is called the 'sunny side of the Matterhorn' as it gets more afternoon sun compared with Zermatt, so you can happily sit out on your balcony in your white fluffy bathrobe having a glass of wine in the sun. The rooms are quite simply decorated and intentionally with no art on the walls, as the owners wanted the scenery from your window to be your primary entertainment.
The spa is truly state of the art with dietitians, kinesiologists and therapists on tap. The view from the pool looks up over the mountains towards the Matterhorn, you can design your own herbal teas to suit your health needs from the array of specialist herbs provided, and after your obligatory steam and ice foot-bath, the massage therapist will find knots in places you didn't even know existed!
If you feel like a break from skiing, take the lifts up anyway, an easy walk from the hotel or even quicker car ride in one of the resort 4x4's. €30 for a day pass gets you right up to Plateau Rosa and the border with Switzerland from where you can ski down into Zermatt. The joy of not skiing is that you come down in empty cable cars with fantastic views of the Mont Blanc and Matterhorn. On the piste, Chalet Etoile is without doubt one of the best mountain restaurants.
Every time I explore a new destination, whether it’s on an adventure holiday in Peru or a luxury beach escape in the Indian Ocean, I return home full of excitement to share the amazing sights I have seen. Through my own experiences I have developed a love of helping others experience the great wonders of the world; truly getting under the skin of the extraordinary destinations that are at your fingertips. Getting the details right, from which hotel is perfectly located for exploring away from the crowds, to which local guide is most knowledgeable on history or culture or art, is of paramount importance to me. I am constantly seeking out new and exciting experiences and exploring off the beaten track to ensure my clients are receiving the best and most honest first-hand advice.
