New York needs little introduction; it's skyline a veritable work of art, its legacy of turning dreamers into stars - world renowned, and its people… well, their steely reputation doesn't do them justice - everyone is welcome in New York City. I love walking down Manhattan's endless avenues, brimming with life, wondering what's in store from block to block. Of course, putting time aside to admire NYC's most famous sights and architectural beauties such as the Empire State building and Lady Liberty, the outstanding Museum of Modern Art and the eye-widening shops of Fifth Avenue, is a must. It's just as fabulous as the movies allude. But there is SO much more to New York. Exploring each district with its distinct personality, you'll discover wonderful gems from family run diners to hidden art studios and gorgeous boutiques where you'd least expect them. Through years of visiting Manhattan, and always keeping my ear to the ground on the city's hottest trends, I have a personal guide book of experiences that will make your city break both exciting and unique in equal measure.
I've tried and tested the very best hotels and can advise you from personal experience, based on the area and style that most captures your interest. The Carlyle cannot be faulted; sleek and sophisticated, with a dazzling restaurant, atmospheric jazz bar and some of the finest shops and restaurants a stone's throw away. Hotel Plaza Athenée, close to Central Park, is perfect for early morning strolls in the park, offering stylish rooms and charming staff who will go above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay. The Mark is a firm favourite of mine and quite unlike anywhere else. It's perfect for design lovers and boasts one of the most exciting dining experiences in the city at The Mark Restaurant by Michelin starred Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. If you're looking to really splash out, The Mark Penthouse is probably the most luxurious pied-a-terre in New York (it even has its own own ballroom) – a fabulous hideaway to host a special occasion. There's no doubt that New York is one of the world's great foodie mecca's, a product of all the nationalities that abide here; you'll find flavours from all over the world, whether sampling delicious food cart treats on Fifth Avenue or indulging in sumptuous fine-dining in sky-high restaurants. Each day you can try something completely different. Cosme is the place to sample contemporary Mexican inspired cuisine – their Corn Husk Meringue is sensational. Or after a stroll through the Flatiron district, Gramercy Tavern has a classic feel with a delicious menu to match – ideal before a Broadway show. For a quick bite with excellent people watching, Cipriani Dolic in Grand Central is just the spot, overlooking the magnificent terminal. I could spend hours there watching the world go by.
New York is a hub of innovation, constantly changing as new ideas and styles sweep through its concrete jungle. If you're looking to take in the very best of the city, with some of our top little secrets thrown in, give me a call to start planning your trip.
Every time I explore a new destination, whether it’s on an adventure holiday in Peru or a luxury beach escape in the Indian Ocean, I return home full of excitement to share the amazing sights I have seen. Through my own experiences I have developed a love of helping others experience the great wonders of the world; truly getting under the skin of the extraordinary destinations that are at your fingertips. Getting the details right, from which hotel is perfectly located for exploring away from the crowds, to which local guide is most knowledgeable on history or culture or art, is of paramount importance to me.
