In an area of exceptional natural beauty, deep in the mountain wilderness of the Dana Biosphere Reserve, Feynan Ecolodge provides guests with an immersive experience of Bedouin hospitality.
Feynan has been named one of the top ecolodges in the world for its contribution to local economies and nature conservation. Guests can experience a wonderfully remote region in a way that ensures its sustainable future.
Feynan’s location is so peaceful and remote, it’s a wonderful place to relax, read, connect with nature and appreciate the beautiful sunlight on the surrounding mountains. The lodge design is inspired by the traditional inns ‘caravanshai’ that people used to stop at on the silk route. 26 rooms are positioned around an inner courtyard that is open to the night’s sky, each with an ensuite bathroom and comfy beds (spring for a Deluxe Room for more space and a private balcony).
The water comes from a local spring and everything is powered by solar. In the evenings the lodge is beautifully lit by candlelight.
Cuisine is all vegetarian, usually traditional Arabic Mezzes for lunch, and 3-course dinners inspired by local cuisine, served out on the terrace with a view to the stars.
Days can be spent exploring the desert, hiking and biking beautiful trails, visiting ancient copper mines or archaeological sites such as nearby Petra.
Spend a day with a Bedouin family to discover the tribe’s history and traditions and learn about their sustainable lifestyle.
You will learn how to make Arabic coffee and the etiquette of serving and drinking it, how to make Kohl (eyeliner) which they believe strengthens eyesight and protects against ailments, and you can even learn to weave a traditional tent out of black goat’s hair.
Another fascinating experience is spending a day with a local shepherd grazing his livestock. You can head out early in the morning to learn the way of life of shepherds, their strong sense of cultural identity, and share lunch together, most likely delicious Arbood bread baked over a fire, and sweet tea.
Feynan Ecolodge supports local communities and provides sustainable employment opportunities. A portion of profits help fund conservation efforts in the Dana Biosphere Reserve.
Every time I explore a new destination, whether it’s on an adventure holiday in Peru or a luxury beach escape in the Indian Ocean, I return home full of excitement to share the amazing sights I have seen. Through my own experiences I have developed a love of helping others experience the great wonders of the world; truly getting under the skin of the extraordinary destinations that are at your fingertips. Getting the details right, from which hotel is perfectly located for exploring away from the crowds, to which local guide is most knowledgeable on history or culture or art, is of paramount importance to me. I am constantly seeking out new and exciting experiences and exploring off the beaten track to ensure my clients are receiving the best and most honest first-hand advice.
