Situated in Perth’s 140-year-old State Buildings with grand Victorian-era facades, COMO The Treasury provides a true urban escape with character aplenty.
I love everything that Kerry Hill channels his super design skills towards. The Treasury’s 48 rooms and suites boast high ceilings and oversized windows, some leading to balconies, which allow natural light to flood in and emphasise the ample space of each room.
The design is luxurious and stylish throughout; heated floors, a calming colour scheme, white Egyptian cotton linens, black-out blinds, hand-carved wooden furniture, Grand Posture king-size beds and deep-form Kaldewei Duo bathtubs to ensure comfort and serenity.
Views, depending on the room category, take in the dazzling city skyline, Cathedral Square, Stirling Gardens or The Treasury’s internal courtyard. For the most wonderful views, go for the Corner Suites.
Como Shambala is a world-renowned spa experience that offers a wonderful variety of treatments covering health and wellness for the mind, body and soul. For those travelling in a different direction to me (beginning the Australia adventure in Sydney), I would recommend the ultimate serene treatment: Jet Lag Recovery, including a massage, eyes treatment, foot soak and scrub – completely relaxing and the perfect start to any trip (but particularly restorative after a day of tiring travelling!). A dip in the 20m heated indoor pool is also such a treat.
Staying at COMO or not, any visitors to Perth should have The Treasury’s restaurants at the top of their lists, which provide some of the finest dining experiences in the city.
Wildflower, high on a covered rooftop with gorgeous views over the swan river, treats guests to a fine-dining menu inspired by Australia’s six indigenous seasons, with a focus on farmer-and-forager dishes using produce local to Western Australia.
Post, once the franking room of Perth’s General Post Office, is open throughout the week offering a menu of Italian cuisine using seasonal ingredients.
